Parent & Child Relationship
Remember the pride you all feel when your children are born? How helpless and innocent these tiny babies are? How you all have the highest wishes and often expectations for their health and future happiness?
Then the reality of parenthood sets in. No one tells you the many pitfalls ahead of us as parents, and yet parenting is so rewarding. With the right advice and help it can be a pleasurable and happy experience.
Something I have learnt through my hypnotherapy training is with our little ones the conscious mind is not fully operational until our young people are coming into adolescents. The impact of this means any continued negative statements or comments made to your children goes straight into the subconscious mind where it stays for life!
Hypnotherapy can have such a positive impact on issues children present with, as most children reach powerful levels of hypnosis far faster than adult. Try asking your child a question when Thomas the Tank engine or Dora the Explorer is on television, you will see your little one is completely engrossed in the programme.. (in a light trance).
The First Session
While hypnotherapy with children can achieve wonderful results, it is often not an easy process. Children need to feel comfortable and safe with the Hypnotherapist and often although in a light trance they do not close their eyes.
I take time to get to know the child before attempting any therapy sessions and the first session is generally with the parents to discuss issues without the child present. At this time I also like to have a hypnotherapy session with the parent/parents so they have an understanding of the process.
Parent Support
As in any intervention with children it is important for parents/ caregiver to be present and informed. During sessions the parent is either relaxing nearby or sitting beside the child. While parent support is encouraged they don’t play any part in the actual sessions.
Please note
Hypnosis is a very powerful method of change and has helped thousands of children globally to make all sorts of positive change in their lives. But!...... Hypnosis is not mind control. For instance not even the most experienced hypnotist can MAKE a child change behaviours if they really don’t want to.
Positive reinforcing suggestions will be discussed at the time with parents as their input and support is crucial in this process.
